Who We Are
line division

Kevin, Jeremy, and Bruce Banca Safaris is a venture owned by three expatriate friends with a distinct fondness of the Philippines.

These are adventurer, sailor, author and financial adviser Bruce Curran, photographer, publisher and ex-geologist Kevin Hamdorf and retired ex-Shell CEO, and petroleum engineer Jeremy Cliff.

The original concept for Banca Safari came from Bruce, who sailed throughout the country whilst preparing the definitive sailing guide for the Philippines "Combing The Coral Carpet". It is over the book that the three friends became connected, Bruce from the authorship, Kevin who provided most of the photographs, and Jeremy whose company pre-purchased 100 copies of this coffee table publication.

Bruce's boat, a 47 ft. sloop, was never able to directly access the wonderful beaches he traveled past in his sails around the country.

sianHe marveled at the versatility of the traditional banca in this regard, and the concept of Banca Safari was born!

Bruce and Kevin prototyped the concept first in 2002, and were joined by Jeremy then as a paying customer in two safaris in 2003 and 2004. On his early retirement, Jeremy joined the venture in 2004. The venture previously used contract bancas, and in 2005, purchased and refurbished its first owned banca: the majestic Buri Princess, now based in Puerto Galera.
